Visual Stress Assessments
Making reading more comfortable, one colour at a time.
Do words ever seem to move, jump or blur when you read? Do you experience headaches, eye strain or difficulty concentrating when looking at a page? You may be experiencing Visual Stress.
What is Visual Stress?
Visual Stress is a difficulty with processing certain visual patterns, particularly when reading black text against a white background. It can make reading uncomfortable, tiring and sometimes frustrating.
It can affect both children and adults and is sometimes associated with dyslexia and other reading difficulties, although it is important to remember that not everyone with dyslexia experiences Visual Stress.
Common signs of Visual Stress
-
Words or letters appearing to move, wobble or jump.
-
Text becoming blurred or distorted.
-
Losing your place when reading.
-
Headaches or eye strain.
-
Difficulty concentrating on written text.
-
Reading becoming tiring or uncomfortable.
-
Sensitivity to bright light or glare.
How can we help?
At M S Kalsi Opticians, we use ReadEZ technology to carry out Visual Stress assessments and explore whether colour can make reading more comfortable.
During your assessment, we look at how you respond to different colours to identify whether a particular tint may help reduce visual discomfort.
Depending on the results, we can advise on suitable coloured overlays or specialist tinted spectacle lenses.
Who can benefit?
Visual Stress assessments may be helpful for children who struggle with reading, adults who experience visual discomfort when reading, and anyone who regularly experiences some of the symptoms described above.
